Secretary of State Ashcroft is traveling Missouri to explain the new photo ID law
Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft plans to tour the state in the coming weeks to speak about Missouri's new elections law, which includes a photo ID requirement, that went into effect last weekend. Ashcroft , a Republican who has been an advocate for additional voting requirements, announced the campaign in a news release Tuesday, calling it an effort "to avoid misrepresentation or confusion" about the law . Passed by Republican state lawmakers earlier this year, House Bill 1878 includes the latest attempt to require voters to provide a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, at the polls. Those who do not have a photo ID at the time of voting can cast a provisional ballot. It also allows for two weeks of early in-person voting with no excuse, lets the secretary of state audit voter rolls, and bans drop boxes for absentee ballots, among other provisions.
